Starbucks launches oat milk and plant-milk drinks

Starbucks is introducing more non-dairy milk options and expanding their dairy-free lattes and drinks. The major coffee-chain is also testing a launch of oat milk as a plant-based milk option for drinks in the Midwest in the US as well as Canadian Starbucks cafes. This is due to the plant-based movement and how less people are drinking cow’s milk now, as well as the rising popularity of Oatly, a Sweden-based oat milk brand, that has partnered with Starbucks in Europe and a few high-end locations in America since 2018. The brand Oatley has even partnered with some bubble tea chains Boba Guys tea café.

Just like the popularity of vegan Beyond Meat burgers has made it to fast-food chains, cafes and restaurants, now the law of supply and demand is applying fast to dairy-free drinks in coffee shops. It will be exciting to see how their menus expand after testing this launch in 1300 Starbs locations.

The two other new dairy-free coffee drink additions to their drinks menu are the Almond milk Honey Flat White and the Coconut milk Latte.

What does oat milk taste like in drinks? Oat milk has a sweet, earthy flavour like oats and froths well. Stay posted as I will be posting a simple diy recipe for oat milk soon!

How about you, have you tried oat milk? (such as by Oatly, a very trendy oat milk brand). My friend raves about it as an add-on to coffee.

I also find making oat cream to add to white sauces is great.

What popular drinks and foods would you like to see done with dairy free alternatives?
