Instead of using a hot pepper i gave this guac its kick from green harissa paste (sold in jars either by hot sauce or international section). It also helps if you don’t like cutting hot peppers (because it can burn your or your child’s eyes if you aren’t careful!) but of course serrano chili or jalapeño can be used instead for a classic guacamole.
Ingredients:
2 ripe avocadoes, mashed (or double or tripple the recipe for a party)
Generous Dash lime juice,
Optional for kick: 1-2 tbsp green harissa paste (to tolerance, im sure red harissa would work too but green blends right in) or a pinch of cayenne or 1 serrano chili, stems and seeds removed and minced
Optional: Pinch garlic powder or 2/3 tsp of minced garlic
Half a roma or regular tomato or tomatillo, chopped
1/2 of a red onion, finely diced
Sea salt, generous
Recipe:
Mash the avocados with the lime juice and salt, then mix in the harissa or pepper and chopped veg and give it a good stir.
If you can tolerate feta, a crumbling of it would be lovely too, but its not necessary, i haven’t tried vegan cheese with it yet.
Use it as a nacho dip or a spread for a burger (in the below pic I did a super basic guac burger and I didnt happen to have lettuce, red onion rings, tomatoes but they’d work with it)
